Tampa, Fla. – (April 10, 2023) – Hillsborough County Public Schools is hosting two job fairs during the month of April, in an effort to find dedicated and compassionate bus drivers and mechanics to make a positive impact on our students.

On Monday, April 17, our district is holding a job fair from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 2920 N. 40th Street in Tampa and on Saturday, April 29th from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. at 9455 Harney Road in Thonotosassa. Our district is looking to hire more than 100 drivers to immediately fill open bus routes.

Becoming a school bus driver is a rewarding job – helping children get the education they need to succeed in life, while providing the drivers with a great work-life balance.

“Not only are our bus drivers transporting thousands of students safely every day, but they’re also connecting with our children and fostering that feeling of community,” said Superintendent Addison Davis. “It is extremely fulfilling to be part of a student’s day and for our bus drivers, they are the first person our students see in the morning and the last person that they see at the end of the school day.”

Driver positions have a starting pay of $16.04 an hour. In addition, drivers are provided the opportunity to earn their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for free. On-the-spot interviews and job offers may occur for both Mechanic and School Bus Driver roles.  It is highly recommended that potential candidates submit an application prior to the event for their eligibility to be reviewed.

Hillsborough County Public Schools transportation employees are offered:

  • A zero-premium employee-only health insurance plan paid for by the school district

  • Opportunities for flexible scheduling
