Tampa, Fl. (August 2, 2023) – This Thursday, August 3, will be an exciting day for Hillsborough County Public Schools as district leaders break ground on a brand-new high school in the fast-growing area of Wimauma. School Board Members, Interim Superintendent Van Ayres, and district staff will be joined by the architect team from Harvard Jolly PBK and the construction management team from Beck/Envision to mark this momentous day.

Still yet to be named, High School “UUU”, will be a state-of-the-art facility on an 87-acre site in southern Hillsborough County, designed to accommodate nearly 3,500 students. The property will also be home to an elementary and middle school in the future.

Set to open in August 2025, the three-story high school will include a two-story media center, culinary lab, automotive lab, a theater/auditorium with an orchestra pit, and a two-story gym. Interim Superintendent Van Ayres says the explosion of development that Wimauma has witnessed over the last few years has brought about an urgent need for this school.

“When you drive through this part of the county, what do you see? There are so many new housing developments,” Interim Superintendent Ayres said. “Families are moving to this area – and we are here to provide them with the best education, including innovative classroom space, advanced curriculum, and the latest in technology. This will be a beautiful school that our students will be excited to come to every day. The architect and construction managers know the needs of our communities and have been partners in education who are passionate about giving back to our students and families.”

The new high school will also provide relief for nearby Sumner High school and Lennard High School. School Board Members, Interim Superintendent Ayres, and representatives from the school’s architect team and construction management team will be on site to answer questions about the new school.
