Tampa, Fl. (August 8, 2024) – Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) Superintendent Van Ayres and School Board Members will welcome students for the 2024-25 school year with a full day of school visits planned across the county. More than 220,000 students are expected to return to school on Monday, August 12.
On the first day, Superintendent Ayres and Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister will be available for morning live shots from 6-7:45 a.m. at Collins K-8 to discuss the first day of school and remind drivers to be cautious as students will be out walking to school, riding bikes, or waiting at bus stops. Collins K-8 is located at 12424 Summerfield Blvd., Riverview, FL 33579.
Collins Elementary became a K-8 in the 2023-24 school year and now has 1,600 students enrolled and 160 faculty and staff. Nestled in the Panther Trace neighborhood, most of the students walk or bike to school or are dropped off by their parents in car line. The staff is excited to be the first visit of the day for the superintendent and are thrilled to start the school year.
Media must contact the respective communications departments for HCPS and HCSO to schedule interview timeslots with Superintendent Ayres and Sheriff Chronister.
