Tampa, Fl. (August 25, 2022) – Hillsborough County Public Schools students will see themselves in out-of-this-world careers as astronauts, engineers, and spacecraft designers thanks to an interactive, space-themed celebration during the district’s three-day Space Weekend event that kicks off at Lewis Elementary School tomorrow morning. The event will also be live streamed to all elementary and middle schools throughout the district.

Media is invited to Lewis Elementary, located at 6700 E Whiteway Dr, Temple Terrace at 8:45 am for an exciting event hosted by Blue Origin’s non-profit Club for the Future, in cooperation with STEM2Hub and Space Florida. Space Day Hillsborough will bring students a front row seat to their future in space, with a visit from Sharon Hagle, founder of Spacekids Global and Blue Origin astronaut, along with Dr. Andy Aldrin from the Aldrin Family Foundation.

Students will be able to experience the Giant Moon Map Program, which will allow them to follow in the footsteps of NASA’s first astronauts as they imagine what it’s like to live and thrive on the moon. They will discover future career pathways that can lead to exciting careers in STEM.

After the presentation, students in each grade level will create a postcard depicting what their vision is for the future of life in space, and their work will be flown on the next Blue Origin mission. The postcards will be returned to students with stamps that read, “Flown to Space.”
