As we draw closer to graduation, we will highlight one senior each day who has overcome great obstacles to succeed. Thank you to these extraordinary students for allowing us to share your stories.

Tanaz Nekouee is a graduating senior from Steinbrenner High School.

Tanaz has always been an outstanding student at Steinbrenner… Earning straight As, and excelling in the marketing program, orchestra and volleyball.

At home, Tanaz has been dealing with the declining health of her father. After many misdiagnoses, he was correctly diagnosed with a tumor on his spine. However, by that point, the tumor had grown so large that most doctors refused to operate.

Then, the Nekouee family found Dr. Tran from Moffitt Cancer Center who finally agreed to perform the lifesaving operation. The surgery saved her father’s life but left him with severe mobility issues.

Tanaz admits helping her father is a heavy responsibility, but one she takes on gladly because of her immense love and admiration for her father.

Tanaz has been accepted to many universities and is deciding between USF and FSU. Her father doesn’t want his health to be a factor in her decision; however, Tanaz admits she’s having difficulty moving away and leaving more responsibility on her mother and brother.

Wherever she goes, Tanaz plans to major in biology and pursue a career in the medical field so she can one day impact someone’s life the way Dr. Tran did when he took a chance on her father’s surgery.

Congratulations Tanaz, Steinbrenner High School’s
