Qualifications
Security Officer I and II are the two entry levels that are offered to potential employees. ALL positions require a FLORIDA DRIVERS LICENSE.
Security Officer I
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school, vocational school, or accepted GED certificate. One (1) year experience in a security or law enforcement assignment.
OR
Education Substitution for one (1) year of experience
Satisfactory completion of 30 semester hours from an accredited college or university, or satisfactory completion of a recognized police academy (including military), or certification as an ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP) may substitute.

Security Officer II
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school, vocational school, or GED certificate. Two (2) years experience in a security or law enforcement assignment.
OR
Education Substitution for two (2) years of experience
Satisfactory completion of accredited college or university course work may substitute on a year-for year basis for up to two years of experience. Certification as an ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or satisfactory completion of a recognized police academy (including military) may substitute for two years of experience.

Community Safety Officer II
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school, vocational school, or GED certificate. Two (2) years experience in a security or law enforcement assignment.
OR
Education Substitution for two (2) years of experience
Satisfactory completion of accredited college or university course work may substitute on a year-for year basis for up to two years of experience. Certification as an ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or satisfactory completion of a recognized police academy (including military) may substitute for two years of experience. -
Requirements
HCPS Security employment process involves several stages. The completion of the employment process is predicated on the applicant successfully satisfying each step in the process outlined below.
STEP 1
All applicants must complete a profile within the Hillsborough County School District by clicking Online Employment application.
An applicant open and complete the following forms:
- Release of Confidential Information Form
- Background Investigation Waiver Form
- Employment Application 2010 Form
If you meet the criteria and eligibility requirements, you will be contacted by Security Services. You must also submit a by electronic mail an up to date resume to: security.services@sdhc.k12.fl.us OR fax a copy to (813) 840-7253.
Applicants must be:
- At least 21 years of age.
- Have a valid Florida Driver license.
- Able to maintain flexibility to work any assigned shift to include day, evening and midnight hours; weekends, and holidays.
- Clear of Criminal history to include but not limited to: No felony convictions, adjudication withheld, pre-trial intervention, probation or other plea negotiations, or misdemeanor convictions, probation, or Misdemeanor Intervention Program for charges involving drugs, sex, or violence. No history of driving under the influence, reckless driving, or unsafe driving patterns.
STEP 2Preliminary interview with Security Service recruiter. Please bring with you the following documentation to complete your prospective employee packet:
- Copy of your valid Florida Driver license.
- Copy of your resume, any documentation to support prior employment, and the forms you have already filled out from above.
- All necessary documents if you are substituting education for experience. *See substitution requirements under qualifications.*
- A copy of your Florida state D and G license certificate bearing of and qualification with firearms OR the cards themselves. *They must be current and up to date.*

STEP 3
The applicant will be scheduled for a physical agility assessment test. This includes but is not limited to running, squats, sit-ups and push-ups within an allotted time. Upon successful completion of the agility test, someone will contact you from our office to schedule you for the final interview prior to the medical and psychological examinations.
STEP 4
The applicant will be scheduled for a physical to obtain a medical clearance for job performance. The applicant will sit for a psychological test administered by a designated Health Care professional chosen by HCPS Security.
The applicant will submit to a background check to include to employment, credit history, as well as neighborhood survey.

Training
All officers will attend and complete the training requirements for HCPS Security Services. The training is comprised of class room presentations, defensive tactics and firearm qualifications as well as a Field Training Officer Program (FTO). The purpose of the training is to provide each probationary officer with a solid foundation of specific job duties and responsibilities and have them demonstrate those competencies in the FTO program.
