In November 2024, Hillsborough County residents voted to approve a millage referendum for students, providing a critical investment in the future of Hillsborough County Public Schools. This millage will generate approximately $177 million annually, providing a portion to Charter schools as per state statute.
Below are the various ways our district is dedicating these funds to recruit and retain high-quality teachers and expand academic enrichment programs for students at all grade levels.

Salary Supplement
Ninety-two percent of our millage referendum investment is dedicated to teacher and staff compensation. Annually, all HCPS employees will receive an adjustment of $3,000 or $6,000, depending on their position.

Extended Learning
We are expanding opportunities for every student. Our district is dedicating $1.9 million to provide field trip experiences for 135,000 students, which includes admission and transportation costs.

Academic Experiences
From full school-day VPK access for nearly 2,000 students at no cost to science exploration, project-based learning, and financial literacy, every elementary student will be guaranteed an academic experience.
Physical Education Upgrades
Over five years, we will upgrade or replenish K-12 physical education equipment in 212 school sites, investing an estimated $37 million.
College and Career Counselors
All 29 of our high schools will have a college and career counselor, who play an integral role in preparing our high schoolers for what comes next.
