Cobra Update: 8/3
Cobra Update: 8.3.2020
Dear Coleman Families-
I know there are many questions our families have regarding procedures for 2020-2021. Please know that we are working very hard to review all of our procedures to ensure we are aligned with our school district's Re-opening plan. Pages 29-31 (How will School Look Different in Returning for the 2020-2021 Academic Year?) offers a summary of differences for the upcoming school year. https://hillsboroughschools.org/docs/00/00/27/19/fa_hcps_reopening_plan_r.pdf
As we finalize site-specific plans, including arrival and dismissal plans, meal service (breakfast and lunch), on-campus movement, and more, we will communicate with families via our website, http://coleman.mysdhc.org and alert families via Parentlink messages.
Below you will find useful information and please stay tuned for updates regarding our "Virtual Camp Cobra" for incoming 6th graders and virtual Open Houses for all grade levels.
Thank you for your patience as we work together to ensure a safe and smooth opening to our school year. Please contact us at 813-872-5335 with questions. Thank you!
Dr. Odalys Pritchard
Principal, Coleman Middle School
Welcome to Coleman Middle School!
You have so many questions to start the school year. While many must remain unknown as we await decisions from the school district, here are a few general answers to get our new Cobras started:
• What are the bell times for 2020-2021?
Classes start at 9:35a.m. School ends at 4:30p.m. (3:30 on early release days). If you need childcare earlier, please contact the school to learn about its Before/After School Program.
• How do students find out their schedules?
Student schedules will be sent to your student before the beginning of the school year. If your address has changed since the last school year, please update it with the front office.
• Is there a school supply list?
In middle school, your student will have 7 classes! That's 7 teachers with different needs for their classrooms. You will receive school supply lists from each teacher when school starts.
• How do students get lockers?
Students will not be using lockers at Coleman in the 2020-21 school year.
• How do students get PE lockers and PE uniforms?
PE uniforms and lockers will not be used at Coleman in the 2020-21 school year.
• How do extracurricular sports work?
We have not received final determinations on Extracurriculars for 2020-21.
However, for reference, middle school offers the four extracurricular sports during the school year: basketball, volleyball, track, soccer, flag football. Tryouts for each sport are announced throughout the school year, usually at the beginning of each term. All students are required to complete the district athletic packet at least two weeks before tryouts. Parents are strongly encouraged to complete these well in advance of tryouts as they are time-consuming both to complete and check. We recommend completing the physical and online videos over the summer. When you fill out the packet, check ALL the sports, even if you're not sure your child is interested so you won't need to complete it again.
• How do we join the PTSA? How does the PTSA fundraise?
Coleman PTSA fulfills the PTA promise of being a voice for all students at Coleman Middle School. We support Coleman teacher needs and school programs through funding and advocacy. Click here to join Coleman PTSA and complete back-to-school paperwork, including signing up for the PTSA newsletter, the Chronicle. Coleman Middle School PTSA's Facebook page is another good source of information.
• I have more questions!
This is a challenging time for students, families, and staff. We wish you well and hope we will all be safely together again soon!
