Bus Patrol
HCPS is partnering with BusPatrol to launch a new School Bus Safety Program to keep students safe as they enter and exit our school buses.
Every morning and afternoon, Hillsborough County Public Schools transports 78,000 students. Recent studies in our state revealed that stopped school buses are illegally passed over three times per bus per day.
As part of the BusPatrol program, all buses that transport our students will be outfitted with photo enforcement cameras to detect vehicles that illegally pass while the stop-arm is deployed and red lights are flashing. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office will review the footage to determine whether to issue a citation by mail.
The district will be launching a 30-day public awareness campaign and warning period beginning on August 12 – the first day of the 2024-2025 school year. The program will then officially go live on September 12.
