The SSYRA lists of books above are not intended for use as a state-wide collection development tool or list of required reading. The SSYRA program is designed to encourage students to read and is a voluntary reading program. Not every book selected will suit every student. It is important for anyone using these reading lists to understand that the titles are being chosen with specific grade levels in mind. As such, students should select books within (or below) their grade level list of suggested books. The titles are NOT chosen for a student’s reading ability, reading level or Lexile® level. The titles ARE chosen to engage students and to reflect their interests.
