Leader In Me At Home

Leader In Me At Home

We’ve moved through three of the habits so far this school year.

Habit 1: Be Proactive – You’re in charge

Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind – Have a plan

Habit 3: Put First Things First – Work first then play

These habits concentrate on personal victories.  Victories that positively impact your daily life and activities.  January’s habit, Habit 4: Think Win Win is a transition to public victories.  Public victories positively impact yourself and others.  The story below explains Emotional Bank Accounts. Click on the link below.

The key concepts of an Emotional Bank Account are:

  • Show kindness, courtesy and respect.
  • Set clear expectations.
  • Apologize.
  • Keep promises.
  • Be loyal to the absent.
  • Forgive.

The video link below shows how a school in the UK uses emotional bank accounts within the class.  This system can be moved to the home.

Use some cups or envelopes to hold each other’s positive messages. Post-it notes can be used to write a message to each other. Below is the link to an article that explains how parents can make deposits into childrens' emotional bank accounts.

February is Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood.
