Welcome Back Letter

Dear Kingswood Family,

I am honored to be joining this year as your principal. I am excited to be working with phenomenal students, parents, community members and staff members.

I was born and raised in a military family. As a child, I had the opportunity to travel and attend schools in several states and even other countries.  My prior educational experiences include being a classroom teacher, an Administrative Resource Teacher and an Assistant Principal in diverse school settings.  Coming from such a background, it is important to me that while we appreciate the similarities in one another, we embrace the differences. There is something we can learn from everyone’s diverse perspectives.  Every student and every family has a unique story.  It is our responsibility to understand our students and empower them to be successful.

Developing our students socially, emotionally and academically is our number one priority. Everyone – staff members, parents and community members – contribute to student success. We will help our students reach their full potential by continuing to provide rigorous, student-centered academic experiences that deepen student understanding and engage them to be active participants in their own learning.

In the beginning of my career in education, I heard a quote by Rita Pierson that embodies my beliefs about children: “Every child deserves a champion – an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and who insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.”  Every student at Kingswood will have adults that embody these beliefs in their lives.

My door is always open and I am here to work with you for the success of our children. I look forward to working with our amazing Panther family!

Sincerely,

Carmen Sheffield
