
What is EPIC?

The Education, Prevention, and Intervention Centers (EPIC) program in Hillsborough County seeks to positively impact young lives by altering their attitudes and successfully transitioning them back to a traditional school environment. This program supports the district in their efforts to prepare students for life.
EPIC is an interconnected system of services that assist students struggling with behavior and socialemotional wellness with wrap-around services within one interconnected system.

EPIC Interconnected Systems Framework
The Education, Prevention, and Intervention Centers (EPIC) provide a positive, proactive, and instructional approach for supporting students struggling with behavior and social-emotional wellness, leveraging traditional school based MTSS_RtI practices and wrap-around serviced within one interconnected system.

Level 1
Epic level 1: School-Based Core Instruction for Behavior AVAILABLE NOW
Prevention and early intervention activities (1-10) days assigned
Appropriate for students who are involved in lower level incidents who need brief redirection and basic instruction within their traditional school’s MTSS-Rtl framework for behavioral prevention and intervention supports.
EPIC Level 1 is a promising new approach to reducing the use of exclusionary discipline practices. The program will facilitate alternatives to out-of-school suspension programs for students who are involved in lower level incidents who need brief redirection and basic instruction. Students who attend the program will be counted in full attendance in EPIC 1.
- Complete student screening surveys, questionaires, and provide data to referring site.
- Provide behavioral instruction using social-emotional learning, character education, and career development curriculum.
- Participate in student reflection activities to support a successful transition back to a traditional school setting.
- Provide student’s the opportunity to complete school-based assignments with instructional support.

Level 3
Epic level 3: Intensive School-Based Intervention AVAILABLE

Continuation of diagnostic and support activities (90-180) days assigned
The most intensive level of behavioral support for severely at-risk students. These incidents may include Zero Tolerance incidents or incidents resulting in expulsion. Supports involve in depth problem solving, development or revision of functional behavior support plans, and futures planning for successful re-entry into a traditional school setting.
