Radon Testing Letter to Families

Dear Hillsborough County Public Schools families and staff,

Over the next 90 days, we will be testing for radon in our schools. Testing is required by law for some schools, but we are taking the extra voluntary step to test all our schools. Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that is in soil all over Florida, and it can make its way into buildings from the ground unless precautions are taken.

Our plan is to test all 230 of our schools within the next 90 days. If our tests find any levels above EPA standards, we will fix the issues immediately, regardless of the cost.

We will notify the parents and staff at every school by email and text message when results are received, and on our website at sdhc.k12.fl.us/safety you can find more information, Frequently Asked Questions, the latest test results, and a link to ask us a question.

Thank you for your support as we continuously improve our student safety efforts.
