LITERACY
- 5+ winners of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, recognized at Carnegie Hall
- 75% of 1st graders who complete a full series of lessons in the Reading Recovery program reach grade-level proficiency in 12 to 20 weeks, with first year Reading Recovery students growing an average of 11.5 text levels
- More than a dozen of our schools are “Leader in Me” schools—based on Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People
- Out of our 50 high-needs Achievement Schools, 18 improved a letter grade and another 12 maintained a “C” grade or higher
STEM
- 120 elementary schools competed to solve the most challenging math problems in the Math Bowl
- 450 students competed in the middle school Math League competition
- 600 students competed in the high school Math Bowl and regional competitions
- 1,700 students participated in Hillsborough Robotics grades 4-5 with LEGO, WeDo and Mindstorms

SOCIAL STUDIES
- 13,000 4th and 5th grade students participated in the annual 4-H Tropicana Public Speaking program

- 30 middle school students competed in the National History Day competition
- 96 students from 16 schools competed in the 5th grade Economics Quiz Bowl
ADVANCED ACADEMICS
- In 2019, our 3 collegiate academies graduated 166 students with Associate of Arts degrees; Hillsborough is adding a 4th collegiate academy in 2019-2020
- 27 high schools offer AP classes and free SAT for all students
- Recently, at Strawberry Crest High School, 100% of its IB seniors passed the challenging IB exam
- All our IB high schools had a passing rate of 82% or higher; the national average is 66%
ART AND MUSIC
- 2019 Best Communities for Music Education Recipient
- Since 2014, more than 50 students have received American Ballet Theater certifications for Level 4 of the National Training Curriculum

- Jr. Bucs Fitness Challenge infuses football skills and drills in current physical education curriculum throughout Hillsborough and Pinellas County Public Schools
- The First Tee Golf Programs Core Values training with golf skills infused at elementary and middle schools
- Student dancers received scholarships and awards from Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture & the Arts

MILITARY PARTNERSHIPS
- Nationwide Pete Taylor Award for the strongest school district / military partnership in America
- Eve Glenn of Robinson High School honored with National Military Child of the Year Award
- Project SALUTE partnership with Department of Defense focuses support at on-base Tinker K-8 School
- 27 JROTC units in high schools and career centers place us among Florida’s leaders
2018 EDUCATION REFERENDUM
- Hillsborough County residents voted and approved a half-penny sales tax, which will create more than $1.3 billion in construction and renovation spending, boosting our local economy—addressing essential district needs including air conditioning, aging roofs, classroom technology and safety & security improvements
- As of August 2019, payments and commitments to vendors working on referendum projects have generated an economic impact of $108 million
- 7 out of every 8 dollars spent on referendum projects have gone to Tampa Bay area companies
SAFETY
- Hillsborough was the first large district to be fully compliant with every part of Florida’s new School Safety law
- Hillsborough is adding a new cutting-edge security system that empowers employees at all district-operated schools; using an ID badge, any employee will be able to call for help or initiate a school-wide lockdown if needed
